Stevenson’s approach to education …

… is most effective when there is meaningful collaboration with families and outside support professionals who work with our students.  With that team approach in mind, all Stevenson students are required to maintain an ongoing relationship with a therapist outside of school. Parents are encouraged to engage in family therapy when needed and to attend parenting workshops held throughout the year at Stevenson. Parents are also obligated to follow through on recommendations made by the clinical team.

To ensure close, effective communication, Stevenson has established several processes that have proven to work well for the school, families, and outside professionals. For parents, students’ advisors are usually the best first point of contact. Advisors share updates about academic and social-emotional progress with parents every week. If advisors are unable to address any concerns, they will connect the parent with someone who can.  Stevenson’s clinical team also communicates frequently with parents and is the primary point of contact for outside professionals.

Parents Association

Stevenson has an active, vibrant Parents Association.  All Stevenson parents are invited and encouraged to participate.  It is free to join, and there are no dues.  Events and activities include planning for our annual potluck supper, our gala, curriculum night, parent buddies, faculty appreciation and more.  The Parents Association enjoys a close and collaborative relationship with the school leadership.  The Head of School, the CFO, and the Trustees regularly attend PA meetings and roll up their sleeves to work together on the task at hand.

P2P (Parent-to-Parent) Support Network

Robert Louis Stevenson School's Parent-to-Parent Network  (P2P Network) is proud to partner with the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA National). P2P Network offers parent-driven support and resources in live meetings. Personal and individualized, this monthly online forum, hosted by Stevenson, is free and open to parents and primary caregivers nationwide raising emotionally complex children and young adults. Attendees offer and ask for resources and share parenting experiences. Attendees often express that, “At P2P, everyone gets what I'm going through." Feel appreciated by parents on a kindred journey. To participate, email Jerry.
